Digital Future Programme With Micro:bit

Introduction

STEAMLabs Africa launched the Digital Future with Micro:bit in collaboration with Micro:bit Education Foundation and Nordic Semiconductors in January 2022. In line with the Micro:bit Educational Foundation vision; to inspire every child to create their best digital future, the program is  designed to empower learners to become digital creatives and innovators while creating their best digital lives. It hopes to inspire young people to get excited about technology and the opportunities it presents for them.
The program seeks to introduce learners to programming using the Makecode platform and the Micro:bit microcontroller. Teachers will be involved by teaching students directly.

Program Objectives

Over the duration of the course the program will:

1. Introduce students to digital skills using Micro:bit and MakeCode Programming platform especially underprivileged and girls.
2. To expose learners to design thinking as an approach to problem-solving.
3. Train students on UN Sustainable Development Goals and support them to create solutions for them.
4. To train students on digital citizenship skills such as complex communication, being safe and legal online, handling information and content in the digital age.
